Is recycled genuine leather real genuine leather? 

Recycled genuine leather is not real genuine leather. Here is a detailed explanation:

A) Raw material sources: 

Real genuine leather is the original hide stripped from animals such as cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, and deer, which is processed by leather factories. On the other hand, recycled leather is made from the scraps and offcuts produced during the processing of genuine leather or recycled leather, which are collected and processed. 

 
B) Production process: 

The production process of real genuine leather mainly involves multiple complex procedures such as dehairing, tanning, dyeing, and fatliquoring of animal hides.  For recycled leather, the process starts with crushing the reclaimed scraps into fibers of a certain size, which are then mixed with natural rubber, resin, and other raw materials. The mixture undergoes compression, heating, extrusion, bonding, dehydration molding, drying, slicing, embossing, and surface treatment to complete the production. 

  
C) Performance features:

Real genuine leather has natural pores and textures. The texture of each piece of leather is unique and it has good breathability, moisture absorption, softness, elasticity and strength, etc.  Although recycled leather has certain moisture absorption and breathability to some extent, and the well-made ones also have softness and elasticity, its strength is inferior to that of genuine leather of the same thickness. The surface texture and pores of recycled leather are artificially processed and lack the natural texture of genuine leather.
